Cornhole Tournament Rules

1. Team Format

  • Teams consist of 2 players

  • One player per team is positioned at each end
  • Players alternate throws

  • Each player at  the throwiing end throws all four bags per frame


2. Boards & Distance

  • Boards are placed 27 feet front-to-front

  • Foul line is the front edge of the board

  • Players must stay behind the foul line when throwing


3. Scoring (Cancellation Scoring)

  • Bag in the hole: 3 points

  • Bag on the board: 1 point

  • Bag off the board: 0 points

At the end of each frame, points cancel out:

  • Example: Team A scores 5, Team B scores 3 → Team A earns 2 points


4. Game Length

  • First team to 21 or more points wins
  • No bust rule


5. Starting Play

  • Coin flip or bag toss determines first throw

  • Winner of previous frame throws first in the next frame


6. Time & Pace of Play

  • Games are scheduled in 25-minute time slots

  • If time expires:

    • Finish the current frame

    • Team with the higher score wins

    • In seeding round ties are not broken.  In the playoffs, sudden-death rounds are played until the tie is broken


7. Fouls

  • Stepping over the foul line = bag does not count

  • Distractions, intentional interference, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in:

    • Bag removal

    • Frame forfeiture

    • Game forfeiture (at organizer’s discretion)


8. Seeding / Round Robin Play

  • Each team plays three seeding games

  • The top eight teams advance to the A event.

  • Teams nine to 16 advance to the B event.
  • Standings are determined by:

    Wins
    Point differential
    Total points scored
    Total points allowed
    Count back
    Coin toss


9. Playoffs

  • Brackets and matchups will be announced after the seeding round

  • Playoff games follow the same rules


10. House Rules

  • Have fun

  • Call your own fouls

  • Good sportsmanship required

  • Tournament officials have final say on all rulings
